Empower Our Youth: A Call for Local Support

Local Futures Project: Back Your Community, Empower Young People

Now, more than ever, young Tasmanians need our support.

A recent OECD report shows career uncertainty in young people is at an all-time high, impacting mental health, community connection, and long-term outcomes. In 2024 alone, soaring demand meant more than 800 students missed out on Beacon Short Courses — immersive, hands-on programs proven to build confidence, skills, and real connections with industry.

We can’t afford to let that gap grow.

The Local Futures Project is our bold response: a collaborative, community-funded model that brings Short Courses into schools with the highest need. Together with councils, local businesses, and Beacon, we can ensure young people are seen, supported, and set up for success.

The model is simple:

  • $10,000 from Council
  • $10,000 from local businesses
  • $10,000 from Beacon Foundation

This enables up to six Short Courses and 150 student engagement opportunities. With further investment, that impact only grows.

Be part of the solution. Join the Local Futures Project and help empower the next generation of Tasmanians.
