You may be thinking “I’m not even sure what I want to do after school” or “the transition to work seems so far away” or “I haven’t even started looking for a job…”

You might not know it yet, but you already have the strengths and interests that businesses are looking for in an employee.

Maybe you are always looking out for teammates when playing sport, or you have hobbies or interests that have given you some valuable skills, or perhaps you help out caring for younger family members.

These are all your unique skills and interests, and the next step is to identify them to begin your journey towards career readiness.

What is career readiness?

Career readiness is about preparing yourself for the transition to work when you finish school. This means understanding more about yourself, your skills and your interests, and the employment pathways available to you.

How does Beacon help students build career readiness?

Beacon runs school programs, including a students’ work readiness program, preparing young people for the transition to work.   When you participate in a Beacon program you will get to meet and talk with industry volunteers who will share their career journey, tips and insights with you. Our programs help you understand more about your career options and connect you with a range of business volunteers who share their suggestions, insights and advice to assist you in preparing for work.

What programs do Beacon have on offer?

Beacon offers a variety of programs for students in Years 7 to 12. Our Short Courses are either half or full day and help you to feel more confident and ready to transition from school to work. These short courses may be run face-to-face in the classroom, on-site with a host business or online. Our Beacon Career Program includes 12 sessions (approx. 2/3 hours per session) and assists you to identify and navigate towards personally aligned opportunities after school. Every Beacon program invites industry volunteers to share their own career journeys revealing many opportunities to students that you not even be aware of.
