What does Beacon do?

Beacon is a not-for-profit charity delivering student work readiness programs for students in Years 7-12, more specifically targeting students in Years 9-12, in schools with an ICSEA* of less than 1,000.

What is the focus of Beacon programs?

Beacon’s programs are focused on increasing young people’s career confidence and career readiness. Connecting industry and community volunteers with students, we provide opportunities either face-to-face in schools, on-site with host businesses or online to help students understand what the world of work really looks like.

We know that these types of programs delivered face-to-face, and adapted to online when required, combine career awareness with activities that increase career knowledge, connections and confidence, accelerating the transition from school to meaningful employment or education (FYA 2018).

Beacon Facilitators guide students through activities empowering them to identify their skills and strengths, thereby building confidence to transition to further education, training or employment pathways.
